Ok, so one of the BIG drawbacks of a nanny (and there aren't many, they are mostly great) is they tell you when your precious little babies are 'ready' for certain things; solids, haircuts, changes in milk blah blah. Actually that's quite good really isn't it. Jesus I do like to complain.
Anyway the point is, she told me today that the toddler was Ready. This is serious. This is a major step forward. She may be ready, but blimey I'm not sure I am. I mean couldn't she just stay in nappies for a bit longer? Until she's maybe ready for school perhaps, or at the very least until the baby can walk. I just have visions now of juggling a baby on one hip, a toddler who must go to the loo RIGHT NOW on the other (she's bound to want to be carried, simply because it will be so inconvenient) whilst trying to find the necessary equipment from the massive double pram that, lately, has sprung a new idiocincracy and stabs me in the eye with a misplaced piece of wire from the hood whenever I try to get into the euphamistically named 'parcel tray' (parcels for who? dollies?). Wow, that was a sentence, you can breath now.
To be fair, we had a good first day. I got texts throughout the day to update me:
"Off to the park in knickers!"
"Trying the loos in the cafe!"
"Peppa Pig is doing a wee wee!" (she has Peppa knickers...and obviously the toddler didn't actually text that herself, she's not quite that advanced).
She even asked me for the potty before her bath tonight. She was SO PROUD of herself when she jumped up but it was less impressive when she decided to pick it up, show me the evidence of her grown upness, and then shake it about.
So I have mixed feelings. I'm proud, excited, sad and nostalgic for her baby days. All in one splurge of emotion. It's weird, as anyone who's passed that milestone (with their child of course, presumably anyone reading this will have, themselves, been potty trained) will testify.
As ever thankyou to those lovely people who read this. Also thanks to Sandy at Baby Baby who was way too kind about my blog today.
xx

Hello! Just found you via twitter. I've all this to come.... I think they need to make nonspill potties like nonspill dog bowls.... or do they exist? Im off to investigate :)
ReplyDeleteOhh, and i have this alllllll to come.
The joys of potty training. The benefit of having a nanny is that she's done it lots of times before and knows exactly what she's doing. I've potty trained one and mainly did it through bribing with chocolate which is apparently the wrong thing to do. It worked though and now I've got a second toddler who will get to potty training stage soon. I'm not looking forward to it and he doesn't like chocolate either (can you believe that?).
ReplyDeleteYou will get there. I just blogged yesterday about my girls potty training. Fancy doing two at once??? lol I also bought them new Peppa kncikers yesterday - how happy were they?
