No not that F word. I'm talking about Food (although I do have to be VERY careful about what I say around my toddler these days as she copies everything, so actually the other f word is rarely used here, oh how virtuous I am).
So food. If anyone has cracked the 'how do I feed my toddler nutritious food that she will actually eat and not throw on the floor' problem then please share. She's not a bad eater (I'm lucky I have friends whose children literally do not eat at all - don't they get hungry?), but she seems to be permanently on the Atkins. Ham, chicken, sausages are all great but vegetables- are you kidding mummy?.
I involved her in making a brocolli and cauliflower bake the other day - sounds horrible, but it did have ham and cheese in it and was actually quite nice (I have to eat with her to have any chance these days), she broke up the brocolli and mixed in the cheese and all that, had her apron on and everything. But when it emerged from the grill (oven is kaput) all bubbling, cheesy gorgeousness and was set in front of her (cooled a bit clearly I'm not that stupid) she pushed it away and said 'no mummy want pasta' My first thought was 'Darling, you'll never be a supermodel with that attitude', but then I collected myself, urged her to try it - it was pretty good actually - but no. Well I say that, she ate the ham and cheese but miraculously left ALL the veg. I made her pasta. Cop out I know but I want her to eat. She waited patiently for the next offering, and chomped it all down. Not bad really.
The baby meanwhile eats only orange food which she sort of likes, but would probably prefer a rusk or something. The toddler was such a ferocious eater when she was a baby that frankly anything other than a whole pot of food is a food problem in my book.
I am trying not to eat carbs in the evening, lay off chocolate and not drink. I am failing at all three. Clearly. I am a working mother, with 2 small children, who is trying to sort out a house move. Come on life has to have some small pleasures.
Thankyou to everyone (anyone?) who reads this and thanks to those who comment. It means an awful lot to me.
Happy weekends all!
xx

Ah, toddler eating, one of my biggest issues. My son (21 months) eats appallingly and always has. Trying to get protein in him is a nightmare, the closest we can get is cheese on homemade pizzas and occasionally a fishfinger. He's a fruit and snack monster though. At the moment I am following advice I was given which was to just keep on putting new food on their plate each day and apparently eventually they'll go for it. I'm yet to see the results though. Good luck! x
