Finding you...

Finding you

I expected to love you with all my heart
I imagined that great wave to hit me
I cried when they put you in my arms
You were here and I was a mummy.

Don't worry it's normal everyone said
You're tired, exhausted please rest
She needs you more than anyone else
Keep going it's for the best

I waited for that feeling to come
I fed and bathed and clothed you
I hid behind the new mum fog
But it felt all wrong. Where were you?

Then one day as I struggled to function
The lights went on in my head
I looked at you and was overwhelmed
I loved you, just like they'd all said.

Something I wrote about the first months of my todder's life. Hard work this child bearing isn't it? It's so normal to feel like this I think. Since blogging I've discovered loads of mothers who had these feelings. Still seems such a taboo though. Oh well, nearly the weekend xx

  1. Like you say its still a big taboo but in blogging I guess theres a degree of anonimity and people dont judge so its easier to express these emotions. x

  4. That's beautiful and I think this is so true. Most mums feel like this and the idea that we will fall head over heels in love with our baby at first sight only make the ones who take slightly longer to adapt feel totally awkward. Thanks for submitting it to A Mother's Secrets, I hope there will be much more testimonials like yours :)
