Floury chocolatey fudge sponge cake

I have never done a recipe on my blog, because it's not my thing really but today the toddler and I accidentally made a cake that was rather good.  I say accidentally because I expected it to be like all our efforts, pretty inedible but fun to make.  But actually it's pretty decent so I thought I'd share it with you.

Here goes:

125g plain flour
125g self raising flour
125g caster sugar
about half a block of butter
a biggish bar of milk chocolate (we used Sainsbury's Belgium milk, yummy)
some fudge bits (we used Silverspoon vanilla fudge chunks, but I guess you could use anything really).
2 eggs
a glug of whole milk

"Tickle" the flour and sugar together trying to keep as much as possible in the bowl.

Add in the eggs, minus shells if possible.

Mix it all up.

Remove the toddler before she gets her sticky hands all over the kitchen, then give up and accept you'll have to clear it up later.

Shove it in the blender/mixer with the butter cut up in little chunks.

Hope for the best as you pulverise it for a bit.

There will be chunks in it, but that's okay they all melt when you cook it anyway.

Melt the chocolate in a bowl over a saucepan of water.

If there's any left when you've finished 'testing it for melting'.  Pour it into the mixture.

Add in the fudge chunks.

Whack it in a cake tin and bake for about 25 mins.

Find something to distract the toddler while it cooks and cools, then enjoy.

Hoover up crumbs off sofa when you can be bothered.

And there you have it.  A really rather tasty floury, chocolatey fudge sponge cake.

Enjoy!

In other news.  My toddler put an old lady in her place today.

We were shopping and the lady came over and started coo-ing at the baby which was very sweet and very nice.  Until she remarked on what a 'lovely little boy he was'.  Naturally I bristled and was just about to correct her when the Toddler did it for me.

"She's not a boy!  She's my sister!"  She did it with her perfect frown.  I was so proud.
