The Gallery: Him indoors

So this week's prompt at Tara's Gallery is 'Men'.

This is rather timely for me, given the events of this morning.

My daughter woke up at 5am crying and screaming.  Not sure why, she was fine.  Just, apparantly, really angry.  With me.  I got lots of kicks and screams.  I had to physcially take myself off to kitchen and tell myself that I was a mum now and this was all par for the course.  I had to be strong, not get upset with her tantrums, rise above it and be the grown up.  I can't run away.  I am a mother to 2 children.  This is the life I have chosen, it is the life I want.

At 7am I swapped with my husband much to the displeasure of my daughter, who continued throwing herself on the floor "I want Mummy stay with me!"  amid sobs.  The fact that when I go to her she kicks me away is just part of growing up I guess.

At 7.30am I came downstairs, dressed and ready to leg it out the door, I couldn't deal with anymore tears and tantrums, I was too upset myself.

This is what I heard:

"I like painting Daddy"

"I know, do you think it's messy or clean painting with mustard and ketchup?"

"Messy!" Much laughter.

"Do you think potatoes are good paintbrushes?"

"Yes!" More laughter.

I said a quick goodbye, kissed the baby, kissed the toddler's head and ran.

I'm glad he is such a good Dad, it makes up for my occasional loss of maternal competance.

Here he is pre-children, as we waited in a small island airport in The Phillipines.  I think he's lovely.
