I feel I ought to add an addendum to today's rant.
There was a happy ending.
I went to the John Lewis press show today (as a blogger I might add, possibly they thought I was someone with influence when they invited me, how funny). I'm sure at some point I'll tell you about all the wonderful things they have for Christmas (because they really do have some lovely stuff) but just now I want to tell you this.
When I got home tonight the toddler grabbed the goody bag off me and started unloading it while I put the baby to bed.
I came back down stairs:
"So, what shall we do tomorrow? Mummy's home all day tomorrow"
Looking very earnest "I want to go to Christmas please Mummy"
"Right..ok, well we can go to Christmas after your birthday, but what about tomorrow?"
"No Mummy, Christmas tomorrow!"
My brain did some quick connections and worked out that the goody bag was Christmas themed and contained a little reindeer decoration.
Of course it was perfectly logical that that meant it was Christmas time.
I just LOVE the toddler's view on the world. It's just so goddamn LOGICAL and completely unhampered by convention.
She has the unfailing power to make a bad day better.
