Bye bye baby

There are so many last times in parenting.  Being a Mummy is all about getting to the next stage, moving past the sleepless nights, moving off bottles/breast, moving off mush the list is endless.

Today I was shopping in Sainsburys, it was one of the huge ones with clothes.  I needed to get the girls a few bits, so I was delayed in the children's clothes section (pretty good actually I must say).  I picked up some leggings and a top for Eliza and a pair of 'school' shoes as she starts nursery in a couple of weeks.  Then I thought about Tilly, what does she need?  I looked at vests, and babygros, and saw the racks of baby baby clothes, you know the 3-6 months stuff.

Momentarily I had a very sad moment of reflection.  She's not a baby anymore, she needs clothes for a 1 year old.  She doesn't really need vests anymore, or babygros, or baby booties, or anything like that.  She's no longer a baby, of course to me she always will be, but she's not in baby clothes anymore.  It's funny the way clothes manufacturers can make you realise that your children are children not babies, long before you figure it out yourself.

She's saying 'Mamma' now, (took long enough!), she's throwing her own brand of tantrum, she's chatting in her own way, she's 'playing' with Eliza. She's simply heaven to me.

I don't know if we'll have any more children.  I may never buy another babygro.  That makes me a tiny bit sad. How silly is that?

Inspired by Josie's Writing Workshop: prompt 'The Last Time'.
